Katya and Roman contacted me about doing a maternity session near the beach. Katya had seen some ideas of ones that she liked from looking online and came armed with these gorgeous dresses….a photographer’s dream. They are such a beautiful couple and we had such a blast doing this session. Also we were very lucky to beat out the rain and at the end of the session on the beach, it started pouring! We RAN back to our cars, soaking wet!! LOL But, thankfully the rain held out long enough to capture some of my absolute favorite maternity images! Can’t wait to introduce you to thier little boy!! Have to wait until after he is Christened but OH, what a cutie he is!! <3
I normally don’t do extremely long Blog posts but this story is an amazing one….brought on by tragedy but transforms into the blessing of a new life and I am honored to be able to tell it through pictures. I was approached by a friend to do a session for her 2 nieces. While talking about what we wanted to do in the session, she told me their story. After hearing everything, I knew exactly what we needed to do! It just ALL came together. Please take a moment to read through the story, so eloquently written by Lyric and Logan’s Aunt Donna……(get some tissues too)
Here you see two beautiful little girls. The oldest is Lyric and the youngest is Logan. These two sisters are connected by blood, tragedy and the blessing of a new life. There was another angel born before Logan. Her name was London. London was like a butterfly that emerged from her cocoon and lingered for only a short time. Then, without notice, she spread her winds and took flight. Her beauty was measured to none. Everyone blessed to set eyes on her were instantly touched and their lives were forever changed. Her eyes were mesmerizing and everyone who looked into them was totally engulfed. Unbeknownst to those who loved her most, she was only to be on this Earth for a short time. While taking a nap, she suffered a heart attack. She was, as the doctor stated, that “one in a million”. London Nicole Chappel was called to glory on 08-17-2013 and my family was almost destroyed with grief. The pain of losing a child is too much for anybody. During this period of disbelief, my niece informed the family that she was 5 months pregnant. It was a blessing in disguise. Because she was a wonderful mother, I knew that she would not allow her grief to be carried onto her unborn child. She put her faith in God and carried this child with the utmost safety. But, nearing the last couple months of the pregnancy, she started having health issues. She was admitted to the hospital before Thanksgiving. Here is where the story gets puzzling….. London was born on 11-29-12. London spent 5 days in ICU, she aspirated fluid, she had to be given oxygen, would not eat and had a heart murmer. Due to the stress on the pregnancy with the new baby, the doctor informed my niece that they needed to take Logan early. Before they could get her prepped for surgery, 3 Emergency c-sections came up. Logan had to be taken a month early, she spent 5 days in ICU, she aspirated fluid, was given oxygen , wouldn’t eat, possessed a heart murmur and yes, Logan was born on her sister London’s Birthday at 12:34am. At 12:35am, while 5 members of my family were waiting on word of the delivery, Lyric started singing “Happy Birthday to you!” Although this was very strange and surprising, it was clear to me that the baby had been born. Logan looked so much like London, it was uncanning! I still remember the day I took some pictures of London to the funeral home. It was so difficult for me. I felt pain and sorrow for my niece, DJ, my mom and my sister. When I finally went outside and sat in the car….I felt so overwhelmed with grief and sorrow that I could not put the key in the ignition to start the car. I remember while sitting there sobbing deeply, a beautiful black and yellow butterfly flew in front of my windshield. Oh so slowly, and oh….so gently. I remember wondering why this precious creature was hovering there in front of me. When it eventually settled down on a bush that was in front of the car, I felt a gentle nudge and a few seconds of somber peace. It didn’t last….the thoughts of London’s eyes, her smile, her smell, and her precious innocence took over. I started crying so hard, I could not see. I didn’t even see the funeral’s personnel member who had come outside and then immediately return to the building to grab some tissues. She didn’t even startle me when she opened the car door to give me the kleenex. She was so nice and kind. I remember her saying “I am sorry for your loss…she is so beautiful” Every day that I was able to walk outside me door for about a month, I would see one butterfly….it was black and yellow. I don’t know what message I was supposed to gather from this, but, you’ve got to admit, it is an interesting experience. I still look up at the sky from time to time and I ask God to let her know that I love her and that I miss her. And lastly, I ask God to please tell her that I am keeping my promise to her…..I am and will always look out for her sisters until my last breath. I promise…… After some real soul searching, London’s parents did not allow their grief to cloud them from doing the most unselfish thing. They agreed to donate this little angel’s organs. What we have been informed of, is that her heart went to a baby and her kidney’s went to a 59 yr old. For such a short life, she has definitely left her mark on this earth and saved two lives! This is my Tribute to my dearly departed niece London……you will ALWAYS be in our hearts.

Katy is just awesome….the headbands that she creates are exquisite! The quality is amazing….I can send her a picture of a blanket and say “send me something” and, I swear, she knows the perfect headbands to send me 🙂 I love that!! I finally got to meet her and we hit it off instantly. Ok, so we are both a little crazy and silly, yes….but she is also just a great person, mom and smart business woman! I admire what she has done with her business. She first mentioned us getting together for this collaberation last year, because she had a dream to build the maypole! I wasn’t sure what was going on in that head of hers at the time, but we knew that it had to be spring for the field of flowers!! 🙂 It turned out perfectly…and we had so much fun! She made the perfect headbands to match the Vindie Baby dresses and the models did amazing. My job was easy!! Watching these little guys grow up is just a pleasure!! Last time I saw little guy Rylan he was just a wee little baby! Can’t believe he is getting so big. Big brother Treydon is growing up too! Didn’t really want to have anything to do with taking pictures at first, but look at that face in the second group of pictures!! LOL A little bit of bribery may have gone on to produce those smiles! Whatever works…and I just adore that bond between brothers! So sweet.
